Photo Sharing on Your Own Free Website at Freewebs
Freewebs makes photo sharing easy with albums, blogs and mailing lists
Freewebs, like Tripod and Geocities before it, offers a full range of website tools for free. Photo sharing is very easy -- Freewebs has options to create albums and slideshows, and even offers photo editing tools.
Free as in -- free?
While Freewebs encourages you to upgrade to their paid services, you can do all of your photo sharing through your own free website, provided when you sign up. You can do a lot more than photo sharing -- the site offers blogging tools, templates, mailing lists, forums, tips and hints for promoting your website, and ecommerce tools.
Sign up is easy, and once you've created your account you can almost immediately start uploading photos. If you choose to build a complete site for your photo sharing, there's a vast array of website templates, from professional to playful.
But what about the pictures?
Let's focus on the photo sharing aspects of Freewebs. Once you've created your site and logged in, you're be presented with a page that includes all of your site editing options -- editor, photos, blog, mailing list, friends and stats. Choose Edit My Site at the top, and then Manage Files.
You have the option to upload videos, photos, PDFs, and other files that are on your hard drive. You can also upload to your website via email. If you already have images uploaded to your Freewebs site, they appear in a list on this page.
Select the upload tool that's right for you -- single file, multi or supermulti. Another window will open. Here you enter your photo file name or browse your drive. Freewebs will optimize your photos and video for the web, unless you deselect this option.
When you're finished, click Site Manager. Click on New Page in the Add Pages and Content box. Click on Album, and add a name for the page and a password if you want to. When you're finished uploading your photos, have fun with the Edit Photo Album options.
Decide if you want to do your photo sharing with albums or in a photo gallery. Album backgrounds can be customized, and your photos can be shown in a couple of different ways -- as slides or gliders. Photo galleries support multiple albums on one page, and offer the option of having friends comment on your photos.
After you've uploaded your photos, select Page Properties. Add a background image, background music, and special effects. Press Save and Done.
What's photo sharing if you don't share your photos? Create a mailing list to send updates to, or simply email your friends the URL for your brand new, personal web page.
