Take a Chance on Cool Photo Effects

Produce amazing photo effects with PhotoChances and PhotoEchoes

|

You can enjoy some very cool photo effects using today's photo editing tools or by trying out simple new programs available on the web. I find the effects better and better but some some folks might argue they're weirder and weirder. Who cares -- as long as it's fun!

What exactly are photo effects? They're interesting and unique edits that enhance your pictures, such as rendering them black and white, pumping up the contrast or transforming them into watercolor paintings.

Increase your "cool" factor with effects for newbies and experts alike

Usually, in order to get great photo effects, you have to spend a solid 30 minutes sifting through various filters, adjusting views and experimenting with different options. PhotoChances (a set of programs for Windows that apply surprising photographic effects to your pictures) and PhotoEchoes (from the same people who brought you BrainsBreaker) provide a way to get fun photo effects without all the work. They're perfect for newbies to photo editing, but photo experts will get a kick out of them as well.

PhotoChances

PhotoChances provides automatic photo effects in a slideshow format. In other words, the program takes your photos, applies any one of a wide variety of special effects and then presents the results in a slideshow. If you like what you see, you can "capture" the resulting photo.

You can download a trial copy of PhotoChances from their website. If you're new to photo effects, though, you'll probably be a lot more interested in the gallery section, which lets you check out some of the different photo effects you'll find in PhotoChances: anything from simple black and white conversions to interesting and attractive distortions.

And don't worry. If you fall in love with an effect, you can easily reproduce it. You don't have to sit through a dozen slideshows waiting for PhotoChances to do it for you.

PhotoEchoes

PhotoEchoes is a more limited program than PhotoChances, but it's still a lot of fun. PhotoEchoes uses your own photographs to create kaleidoscope mosaics. You wind up with a combination of distorted photo effects and interesting patterns, all of them taken from your very own picture gallery.

Like PhotoChances, PhotoEchoes offers a free trial download on their website. They also have a gallery where you can check out some interesting tile patterns, although they're randomly generated, not created from photos.

Creating great photo effects

Whether you're an expert at photo techniques or a newbie to photo effects, it's a fun challenge to experiment with these programs. As serious photo editing software, they definitely don't make the grade, but for fun photo effects, they're definitely worth the price.
