Avoid Mistakes When Uploading to a Photo Sharing Site

Limit editing before photo sharing

|

The photographs that you upload to photo sharing sites don't have to be perfect, but it's easy to overdose on creativity when you first discover all the cool editing capabilities available. By being aware of what mistakes many people make, you can ensure that the photos you share are enjoyable - but not overdone. Remember the last time you added too much salt to the pot roast? Same thing!

Too much of a good thing

The first time you see all the tools available to you when you upload your pictures to your photo sharing site, it's natural to want to try them all. They bring out our desire for creative expression beyond the actual picture-taking. But, you get carried away, so it's important to limit the editing options that you apply to your images.

As you look around for the perfect photo sharing site for you, you'll likely be impressed with the site's editing tools, especially the creative elements you can apply. People who are new to creative photo editing might tend to get carried away and apply too many elements. This could result in a ruined photo.

You can always get back your original photo either by deleting the creative elements you've applied or by uploading the original photo again. The best choice, of course, is to have a basic understanding of how editing works to avoid the problem in the first place.

How you crop a photo for use on a photo sharing site can produce two results, one good and one bad. Cropping is the method you use to remove or mask the unwanted parts of your photo. Cropping can eliminate clutter and create focus on the main subject for a more dramatic photo. Over cropping can minimize the effectiveness of the overall image.

Determine where you want the focus in your photo. Then, look critically at the other elements and decide whether everything in the image is important. Start removing unimportant parts, like the corner of a building on one side of the image, or a stray branch poking into the side of your photo.

If you're not happy with the results, it's a good idea to undo one crop before you try another. That way, you can see what each crop does to the photo until you end up with a perfect photo.

Some photo sharing sites have impressive photo editing tools that let you do many things, like adding a sepia tone. You can even sharpen images that are a little out of focus.

Try each tool, see how the photo looks, and undo the application before trying another tool. Once you've decided which tools you want to use, use them carefully. Adding too many different elements could ruin, rather than improve, your photo.

Get into the routine of applying and immediately removing special effects one at a time, otherwise your photo will end up with effects layered upon effects that you might not be able to remove.

If you choose your editing tools and enhancements sparingly and wisely all of your photos on your photo sharing site will be remarkably improved.
