What's New At Flickr?

"Interestingness" Is An Amazing New Fun Feature At Flickr

Flickr seems to be constantly striving to make photo sharing more exciting. Its latest feature is a category called "Interestingness". Not all photos make it into this category. There are certain requirements for each photo to be chosen. Fortunately, it's quite easy to meet the criteria.

Do Your Photos Meet The Criteria To Be Included In This New Flickr Feature?

Flickr has come up with a unique new feature that can give you even more exposure for your photos. Focus on shooting images that meet the criteria and Flickr will automatically include you in their new "Interestingness" category. Then, anyone who visits Flickr will see your great work.

So what is "Interestingness", exactly?

Let's face it. We've all taken boring photos at some point. They lack life and energy. There's nothing really exciting about them. They're just standard shots that could have been taken by anyone, even your baby sister or brother.

Just because we've taken photos for awhile doesn't make us immune to taking such photos. We might have been tired that day, or just not that interested in the shot.

Whatever the reason, those aren't the only shots we've taken. Our portfolios include a good number of interesting and inspiring photos that would be perfect for Flickr's new feature.

Those are the photos we brag about. They are the ones we flash at every opportunity. They draw the oohs and aahs. They are the ones that deserve the "favorites" designation.

The thing is, what makes a photo interesting?

Not everyone agrees on what makes a photo interesting. The best way to find out if yours are interesting is to get them onto Flickr and try to attract clicks to your images. Invite people to comment on your photos and mark them as favorites. This is what will determine interesting photos.

When uploading your photos to Flickr, be sure to include appropriate tags or keywords so that people can find them easily. Make the matching comments exciting and unique. Have fun describing your prize photo.

Let people know where you took the photo. Tell them about any awkward situation you put yourself in to get that fantastic shot, such as hanging upside down to capture an unusual perspective.

Perhaps the subject itself lent itself to your creative input. A boring rock face can be made more inspiring by capturing a rare plant growing from between the cracks. Textures and close-ups of common objects peek curiosity and imagination.

Any photo that captures someone's attention is suitable. It might be a cute baby in an odd pose, a puppy doing something out of character, or a team player making the goal of the century. Stopped action is always interesting because those shots give us a chance to study a snippet of time that we'd otherwise miss.

These are just some of the things that make photos interesting.

To get your photos selected for the "Interestingness" category, take a look through the photos that have already been chosen. Simply click on the Explore button at the top of your Flickr home page. On the right side of the page, click the active link "Interestingness".

You'll soon have lots of ideas on what makes a photo interesting and how you can make yours a winning candidate for this new category on Flickr.
