Perfect time to start sharing your photos

Coffee: check. Favorite CD: check. Sharing your photos online: check. This Saturday, why not settle into your favorite chair and start sharing your photos online? You'll need less than an hour -- about the time it takes to finish one load of laundry (hint: it's a lot more enjoyable). Here's how:

Start Spreading the News

If you've been holding off sharing your photos online because you think it takes a lot of work, time and energy, think again. Once you've mastered the basics outlined below, the only thing left is to enjoy the fun you'll have posting new images showcasing your life and experiences.

1. Choose a photo sharing site. Several excellent photo sharing sites will appear when you run a search in your favorite search engine. The best, most popular ones will be listed first. Check them out, looking at what they offer, what interfaces you prefer, and what specific restrictions they have. Or even easier, check out the reviews on this website.

Also review storage space, types of photos allowed and whether you have to buy something in order to keep your account active. Look for all the available options for sharing your photos online, including Groups, Forums and special gifts that you can purchase through your account.

You might be tempted to skip sites that charge a fee. Before you do, make sure you know what the difference is between a free and a paid account. Free accounts generally offer limited features while paid ones might have features you can use, like more storage space and multiple back ups to secure your images.

2. Register. Once you find the right site. Registering is simple. Enter the required details, make note of your login information and create your account.

3. Create sets or albums to hold all the images you'll upload. First, consider how you'll share your photos. You might have a group of images that you'll share with coworkers or family portraits you'll want to mark 'private' for sharing with loved ones only. You might want to share your latest vacation pics with the world.

Putting each group of photos into their specific albums or sets will make it easier to decide who will see them and how you want to set the privacy/public options.

3. Add your profile. This way, people will get a better idea of who is having so much fun with his or her camera.

4. Notify your friends and family. From your account, send an email containing the web address where they can view your photos.

As you can see, there's no reason to hesitate because of time restrictions. You can set up your account, upload images and start sharing your photos online before lunch.
