An Introduction to Working With iPhoto Books

Use this guide to make working with iPhoto books a breeze!

|

We've always used albums to share photographs, and working with iPhoto books takes photo sharing to the next level! This brilliant application allows you to create a photo album right on your computer, send it off to the printer, and receive a completed photo album in return! It doesn't get much better than that.

The process is easy and straightforward, but if you're new to working with iPhoto books, you might feel a bit overwhelmed. But if you follow these guidelines, you'll be an iPhoto expert in no time at all!

1. Getting Going

To start a new picture book, select "book" from the menu at the bottom of the window. Some people get confused with the "new album" option in the file menu. "New album" creates a new folder for storing your photos. If you want to create a book, you have to select the book icon!

iPhoto will then invite you to choose a theme for your album. Select the one you think fits best. Don't worry: you can change your mind later on. At this point, you can also select whether you want a large, medium, or small book. Large books are the same size as a piece of letter paper, which tends to work well for photo albums. That's it: you're ready to start working with iPhoto books!

2. Adding Photos

Once you've created your album, you can either add all photos from your library, folder, event or album, or add individual photos manually. In most cases, it's fine to go ahead and choose "add now": iPhoto won't create an album with these pictures; it will just make them available up top for you to drag into your book. If you decide to add photos individually, you can do it by dragging them from the library to the book's icon on the left.

TIP: If you want to make a book with the pictures from a specific album, click on that album before selecting "book." The pictures from the album will automatically appear in the upper window.

3. Adding Pages and Page Designs

The next step in working with iPhoto books is, of course, to start making the book itself. Use the "add page" icon on the bottom menu to create new pages, and select the type of page you want from the "page design" menu. You can fool around with this as much as you like, changing existing pages to different designs, or even creating a whole new theme for the book you've already assembled (pictures and page layouts will remain in the new theme).

However you want to organize your photos, you're sure to find a way to do it with iPhoto books. Have fun, and get started working with iPhoto books today!
